Uhlenhaut SLR

In the middle of the fifties, Juan Manuel Fangio, Sterling Moss and Karl Kling sat in one of the most succesfull racingcars all-times; Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR. Eight cylinders, 2982 ccm displacement, untill 310 PS and over 300 Km/h maximum speed. These are a feew benchmarks of this silverbolt, which started at Mille Miglia, Targa Florio, Tourist Trophy, Eifelrace and Grand Prix of Sweden.

On the basis of this winning-car, Rudolf Uhlenhaut (1906-1989), former car-examination-chef and leader of the Mercedes-Benz racing-development, cunstructed a roadworthy coupe; this version connected the form and technic of the 1954 prouced 300 SL gullwings with this succesfull racing-car: the 300 SLR-Coupe. Well-known under the synonym "Uhlenhaut-Coupe". This car caused quite a stir in 1955. A boldy caroche with an elongated bonnet, distinctive the volumionous colleteraly exhaust pipes, the bleeding-slights and the wire spoke wheels; elegant the driver's cab with its rounded panorama-window.His automibile creation, the so called "fast rice-wagon" of Uhlenhaut lived up to it's name: 1117 kg airy and 310 PS strong accellerates this "Uhlenhaut-Coupe"; on testruns on maximum speed of untill 290 km/h. Therewith this twoseater was the fastest car in due time, which was admitted on puplic streets; and one of the most agitating cars that were ever been built by Mercedes-Benz.

The fastest SLR-Coupe never was produced in series. The times wasn't ripe for such an lusty Gran Turismo in the middle of the fifties. In this case the legend got to be forgotten. In the same time Mercedes-Benz took it's leave of the motor-sport. The marvel of energy and elegance was only build twice a time.

Not in the case of this modell here! Martin alias Homer of the Scratchbuild-Forum took a very special modell on to the routing-bottoms, in rebuilding the first known Uhlenhaut-Coupe out of an Carrera-SLR and an 300SL of Cartronic!

Everybody of this forum was enthused, and the question for an midged-serial was not a long time comming. Luckyly in this time, Martin made his first experiences with rsine-casting, and so you can see the result in this building-report.

Only amazing in developing: a resine-caroche with several small parts (windows, foto-etching-parts and decals). Even in manifacturing many forum-members had been involved. thank you for your application and effort!
The original rins are repositioned by one of A2M, the inside is painted red like the original in the fifties. Varnished in silver from www.slotracing-werk.de. An colour-hue that fits very well to the original without looking like the modern matallic-varnish. Afterwards a small clear-coat-varnish to cover the body. And finally to put the car on the slottrack, we need an 300LR chassis from Carrera.
