Porsche 956KH Bad Aachen
1000km Monza 1984
Here I want to show you a building report from a very special Porsche 956.
I noticed the Porsche 956KH from the 1000km Monza race in 1984 through the German slotcarforum. The car has a special
three-tone paintjob and the badge from the city Aachen on the front. Mr. Schornstein, Merl and Winter were the drivers for
this car on the entry list but just the first two finally raced the car in Monza. The Bad Aachen Porsche 956 tested only in
Monza and Silverstone; it was painted in the New-Man livery on the race days. That explains why these two cars look so
similar to each other.
My model is based on a white-kit from Slot.It.

So I primed and painted the car in white at first. And don't forget to fill the wholes for the front wing.

After that I taped the car for the second color: black.

Black and white? Still something missing...

While the black paint is drying I had to look how I can tape the car for the third and last color; yellow. I searched through the web so find out how and where I have to do it and finally I found help in the board!!!

Tapeing the car for the yellow coat wasn't easy at all and you get to know that scale 1/32 is very small sometimes...

But after hours of tapeing you can see the result.

Finished? Not yet; yellow/white side parts are missing so I had to tape the Porsche again...

...and again!

While the last paintjob is drying I started to make the decals by myself. Put on the computer and searched for the sponsors. Finally putting everything in the right size and print it out.

The first decal test showed that I have to adjust some decals so they fit perfect.

After I finished the graphics I printed them out on a normal paper so you can see what will be on the car later on...

And here the car with its first decals.

But that was only the prototype. For what? A series of six cars will be made of this Porsche 956 Bad Aachen. So I started the process again... But I made some things different (that's what prototypes are made for!). So I decided to paint yellow, white and black in a different order.

Bad idea? Yellow masking tape on a yellow car; nice work...

...painting the cars in black was more easy.

And the cars for the first time not covered with masking tape.

Last but not least: white.

And a little bit more white color.

Group shot of all six cars. Quiet impressive view.

After I put on the decals I varnished the cars with Mipa-clear coat. That doesn't smell well so I moved into the garage.

After hours and days of masking and taping I can make the last decals and then it's wedding time...
And here it is. The first finished Porsche 956KH as a slotcar in scale 1/32:

All good things come to an end... :(
